In November 2019, the series was renewed by Amazon for a second season, ahead of the series premiere. The first season consists of twelve episodes the first ten of which were funded via a Kickstarter campaign. The series stars Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham reprising their roles from Critical Role's first campaign. It is based on campaign one of the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role. No decent person is.The Legend of Vox Machina is an American adult animated fantasy streaming television series produced by Critical Role Productions, Titmouse, Inc., and Amazon Studios, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 28, 2022. (Unless you happen to be into that sort of thing, in which case, how'd you like to see my secret puppy torture chamber?) Err I mean, of course you're not into that sort of thing. I don't really care what you think about it.Ĭhaotic Evil: Why, torturing puppies is wrong. Neutral Evil: Yup, I torture puppies for fun. If I happen to give them a few extra kicks as I am capturing them, that's all perfectly legal, isn't it? Lawful Evil: According to the law, ordinary citizens can't torture puppies, which is why I became a dog catcher. Neutral: Personally, I'm not thing to go out of my way to torture any puppies, but hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Good: Torturing puppies is wrong under any circumstances.
On the other hand, here's how I generally interpret evil: I predict that you're going to get several people here who interpret stand offish, flippant or surly as evil. I think you'll find discussion much more useful if you post some kind of definition of the alignments. And I think Taliesin is mischievous enough to do it. I'm guessing Evil, because I think Taliesin is an experienced enough player to know what it means to walk that line in a Good party. So, I'm guessing CG on the big stuff, CN on the small stuff (like pickpocketing commoners). Buuuuuuut, she steals for a living which is selfish. She's saved Caleb's life, which is altruistic. What do we know about her? She's rejected (or been rejected by) her race, who are normally Evil. (Also I think Ashley's own goodness will drag her in that direction.) I'm guessing Lawful Neutral, but I'm hoping her arc has her connecting with her heritage and moving solidly into Good territory. Yasha - will probably have interesting morality questions in her story arc. He's definitely doing the lawbreaker outsider thing, but I'm hoping he brings it around to become more like the weary father-figure for the group, helping to wrestle the less predictable and altruistic characters. But I'm hoping he's going to go towards Chaotic Good. (Selfishness and unpredictability are not interesting - that how normal people act.)Ĭaleb - hard to read. (2/3 were Guiding Bolts in E1, I think?)īeau - Agree it's probably Chaotic Neutral or True Neutral, but I hope Marisha will move off of those because they are the most boring alignments with the fewest restrictions or motivations. Laura is going to be tempted to burn her slots attacking instead of healing, which will be interesting to watch. (She's my favorite so far - that voice is so cute I can't deal).
We also haven't seen this group work with a clear leader (and they could have used one a few times). I also really hope he'll step up to the leader / face role, though WIS 7 isn't great for that. I think/hope he's going to multi- into Paladin.
#Vox machina alignments pro#
I think the gang is pro enough to know they need to supply their characters' motivations for getting together as a party (they did a good job of "deciding" to work together as strangers - a moments when many tabletop games hit the rocks) and then being motivated heroes going on a hero's journey.įjord - Good and probably Lawful. It will certainly make Matt's life a lot easier. I am hoping that we will get some more inherently Good motivations in the party. I'm sure he would have talked to Matt about it beforehand. I think Taliesin might have seen that and decided to go for it. Darren explained it just as "he's really selfish." Still friendly. Darren DePaul's character, who they got along with and really liked, was Chaotic Evil, I think he said on Talks.
One thing to note is that we might have an evil character in the party. So we all have folks in our families who would land on the Evil side (as we are reminded every holiday dinner, right?).
I tend to think of Evil = selfish, Good = altruistic.
